Ghosts

A ghost is said to be the spirit or soul of a dead person, mostly similar in appearance to that person, and usually seen in places he or she went. Many people think ghosts haunt places and usually scare people. This may be because many people believe that ghosts are people coming back from the dead to get revenge on people who harmed them in their life time. Some others believe that they are spirits that are being kept on earth for doing evil in their life. Many things are thought to be ghostly such as, rattling windows and wind coming from under the door, even a shiver down your spine. The common image of a ghost is a floating figure with what looks like a white bed sheet over it, with holes cut out for its eyes. Many people believe in ghost, roughly about 32% of Americans do. One of the first known ghost sightings in the west was in 50 AD in Athens, Greece. It is said that when Athenodoros (a Greek philosopher) was told of a haunted house, he decided to go and stay awake all night in hope to see the ghost. That night sure enough he saw a ghostly image of an old person who had been bound at his hands and feet. The ghost signaled him to follow him, as he did the ghost soon disappeared. Three years later a man’s bones were dug up where the male ghost had disappeared! It is also thought that if your lover dies and you decide to move on with another partner your past partner will return to haunt you! Non-believers say that there is an explanation for all the strange things that people believe are ghosts… wind, light reflection and in cases of seeing ghosts it is usually though to be because the person was under some kind of stress or as most sightings are at night it is put down to tiredness.
