Dinosaurs

Millions of years ago, long before there were any people, there were dinosaurs. Dinosaurs were one of several kinds of prehistoric reptiles that lived many, many years ago. They walked the earth about 165 million years ago but mysteriously became extinct about 65 million years ago. There are lots of theories on how this happened. The most widely accepted theory is that a large rock (an asteroid) hit the earth and caused huge climate change so quickly that the dinosaurs couldn’t adapt. Dinosaurs were reptiles (like frogs) and most hatched from eggs. Plant-eating dinosaurs were the largest animals to ever walk the earth (proving you should always eat your vegetables). Although we all think of dinosaurs as huge animals, the blue whale is much bigger than any of the dinosaurs. The largest dinosaurs were over 30meters long and about 15meters tall. The smallest dinosaurs were about the size of a chicken! Although many scientists try to guess what they think dinosaurs look like, no-one really knows for sure. Some are thought to have walked on two legs, some on four. Some were fast and others were slow. Some ate only meat and others ate only plants. Dinosaurs may have even been pick with purple spots, the truth is no-one knows.
